Owner and Founder of Smiling Toad Films

I’ve always been fascinated by the many ways cultures around the world celebrate love. In 2005, that passion inspired me to create Smiling Toad Films—a studio dedicated to telling authentic, meaningful love stories.

For over 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with an incredible team of filmmakers across Chicago and beyond. When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll find me at home with my wife, Sarah, our two children, Stella and George, and our spirited black Lab, Summer.

Videographer

Originally trained as an architect, I fell in love with the cinema. Since then, I’ve directed over 60 TV episodes and 3 feature films set in Morocco, which have shaped my eye for color, setting, and movement. Now I use the same techniques to capture the unique story of your wedding.

DOYLE

Videographer

There’s no feeling better than capturing the perfect shot. It seems effortless, but I’ve spent years learning how to make creative and technical decisions in the moment as a cinematographer. When I’m not making wedding films, I’m probably re-watching Die Hard.

KEVIN

Videographer

As a cinematographer, I’ve worked on Emmy-winning productions, but I’ve found a true love for the genuine moments that unfold during a wedding day. I’m a pro at helping couples relax in front of the camera, even if all it takes is a classic dad joke to do the trick.

SANDY

I’ve always had a creative eye and an extroverted personality, thanks in part to my experience as a dancer. It’s the ideal combination for a wedding videographer. Over the past 15 years, I’ve filmed countless weddings, and no two have been the same.

Drone Pilot

I see myself as a storyteller, a weaver of tales—and nothing adds texture to a story like the sweeping shots a drone can produce. Before joining Smiling Toad as a drone operator, I worked on commercial campaigns and feature films throughout the Midwest.

TONY

Drone Pilot

As a licensed drone pilot, I’ve filmed parties, quinceañeras, and graduations. But there’s something special about a wedding day. Everyone’s dressed in their finest, savoring their time together. On my nights off, you’ll find me in the kitchen trying new recipes.

BRUCE

Videographer

An artist at heart, my work leans into the rhythm of a wedding day. I aim to capture the unrepeatable: the laugh that escapes unexpectedly, the proud glance from a parent, and the quiet touch between two people who have found their forever.

Why Smiling Toad?

It’s not easy to stand out in the Chicago market, but I thought a unique name would lend itself well. I was inspired by the laid-back spirit of our filmmakers and the calm nature of a toad. While we’re less toad-themed than we once were, we’ve held on to our name and icon as a reminder of how far we’ve come.
